As with the dragonflies, I would have great difficulty identifying, accurately, the moths and butterflies that I am enjoying at StellaLou. This page will be dedicated to those beautiful winged insects. I welcome contributions and corrections with regard to identification. As usual, you can click on the image to get a full page image and, then, click again for a close up image.

I took this picture in the early spring back in the woodlot. I believe it is the cocoon of a giant silk moth of some type. I have not seen the moth itself. I must keep my eyes peeled. Here is a link to a very well written post about the giant silkworm moths.

Black Swallowtail, I believe.

The Mexican Sunflower patch is a fantastic location for watching butterflies and hummingbirds!

Monarch Butterfly. First one seen on July 24, drying its wings in the early morning near the pond.

Yellow Swallowtail, I believe.
